History

SS MILO, measuring 74 x 9 meters, was built in 1865 as a steam-powered passenger ship. With the outbreak of World War I, it entered the service of the British Admiralty and was used to transport ammunition and supplies to the troops stationed in Anzac Cove in the Arıburnu region during the war.

The ship was stabilized by being filled with concrete on October 26, 1915, to protect other vessels approaching the open coastal area, and a generator was installed on it to illuminate the shore with projectors. The ship, used for this purpose until the end of the war, was scuttled during the evacuation. Lying at a depth of 5 to 7 meters, SS MILO has retained much of its structural integrity despite having suffered significant structural damage.
